3 Cool Korean Bars to Check Out in Los Angeles

These are my three go-to Korean bars in LA. Just in case you didn’t know, Korean bars are different from your typical hotel/rooftop bars because they serve food! In fact, it’s almost a given that you will order food in addition to your drinks. Most Korean bars are kind of like restaurants, because rather than open spaces where people stand and mingle, you sit at a table with your group and a waiter takes your drink/food orders.

Click on the name of the bar to go to its Yelp page! Also, I made a short YouTube video on one of the bars, Mazinga Z. Click HERE to watch.

1. Gaam (If you like loud, trendy music, and a place to maybe meet people): Gaam is a great place to go if you want to run into a bunch of people you know or if you want to meet other groups of people. Cool decorations and young waiters and waitresses, but it can get crowded very fast because the tables are close together in an open space. There is a nice outside area for large groups or people who want to smoke.

What makes this place special:

  • Flavored soju
  • Kpop on big screens
  • They dress up on Halloween
  • 50% off Happy Hour from 5-9pm
  • Delicious sweet potato sticks
  • Can cater to large parties (outside)
  • Smoking area

2. HEU (If you want to try flavored soju in fruits): The times that I have been to HEU, it has been surprisingly very empty. My friends and I go during happy hour to take advantage of the 50% off discount. The drinks are really cool because the pineapple soju comes in a pineapple, and the apple soju is served with frozen hollowed out apples as shot cups. The ever popular “cheese corn” is delicious here.

What makes this place special:

  • Flavored soju comes in real fruits! (Eg. Pineapple soju comes in a pineapple and you get apple shotcups for apple soju)
  • 50% Happy Hour from 5-9pm
  • Cheese corn!!!!!
  • Usually pretty empty so it is not too loud

3. Mazinga Z (If you want to eat more than you want to drink): The food is what makes this place special. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious and came in large portions. Even though all the menu items are drastically overpriced, it ends up being very worth it with the 50% off discount. Not only that, but there is no time limit for the happy hour so you can go whenever you want! The interior is pretty dim and lined with comic book characters/scenes. Each party gets a somewhat private table booth so if you want to mingle, this might not be the best place for you. Also, they don’t have flavored soju so keep that in mind if you are looking to drink something yummy.

I made a short video on Mazinga Z, so click HERE to watch!

What makes this place special:

  • 50% off all day
  • REALLY good food
    • I recommend the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Kimchi Fried Rice, and the Mazinga Sampler
    • Just a note: The Sweet Chili Chicken is EXTREMELY spicy
  • Large portions of food
  • Manhwa decorations
  • Secluded sections for each party (not one large open area with crowded tables)

**Sorry about the picture quality for Mazinga Z. I only took videos from this bar so these are screenshots of the video clips.**
