Tuna and Kimchi Kimbab (참치김밥/ 볶은 김치김밥)

I love the tuna and kimchi kimbab’s that you buy from the small street stores in Korea. The only place that I have been able to eat special kimbab in America has been School Food, a Korean restaurant in Los Angeles. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of making this, you can try it there for $7.99!

Make just one kind, or both! It’s all up to you 🙂

**You will need a bamboo kimbab roller

Tuna Kimbab INGREDIENTS: Makes 3 rolls

  • 1 cup of rice cooked
  • 1 can of tuna in water
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (I used Kewpie, but Hellman’s works too)
  • 3 perilla leaves (sesame leaves, ggaennip, 깻잎)
  • salt
  • rice vinegar
  • 3 lines Danmuji or pickled radishes (I got the pack that had the burdock and the radishes. It’s cheaper that way!)
  • 3 lines burdock (optional)
  • 3 sheets of nori

INSTRUCTIONS: Makes 3 rolls

  1. Cook your rice. Mix cooked rice with a little less than 1 tablespoon rice vinegar and a dash of salt
  2. Mix your tuna with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Try to mash up all the chunks

  4. Cut the sesame leaves in half
  5. Place a nori rough side up on the kimbab roller
  6. Place some rice on the nori and spread the rice thinly over the closer half of the nori
  7. Place the halves of the sesame leaves then put the tuna on top of the leaves, along with a pickled radish and burdock

  9. Roll and cut with a damp knife. Wet in-between cuts so that the knife goes through the kimbab easily
  10. ENJOY!!
